Optimization in Power Usage of Smartphones

Abstract: The demand for smartphones and mobile based applications is growing very fast since past few years. Thousands of applications on Google Play store received millions of downloads. The growing smartphone functionalities have increased its energy requirements. The applications provide amazing features and rich user interfaces, make use of hi-tech sensors leading to high power utilization. Many such application contains various kinds of power bugs which leads to unnecessary processes running in the system. There i… Show more

“…Sensory data are collected at higher power costs [ 135 ]. Few studies provide the detailed analysis on smartphone power consumption [ 136 , 137 , 138 , 139 ]. In general scenarios, power management could be attained by cutting off sensors’ power when they are not in use, but continuous authentication requires continuous monitoring and continuous processing, as well as the sensory power that needs to be turned on during the entire active sessions.…”

“…Power consumption is one of the most important criteria for mobile application evaluation. Thus, several optimization techniques could be introduced regarding the most energy consuming components of smartphones [ 49 , 50 ]. Although there is no standard way of monitoring the energy consumption of a mobile application running on a smartphone, there are applications which enable the monitoring of the energy consumption of both system components and applications.…”
