Aedes aegypti, es vector de arbovirus como el dengue, Zika y Chikungunya, constituyendo una amenaza para la salud pública, debido a que las estrategias de control empleadas con insecticidas químicos presentan efectos adversos como la resistencia a estas sustancias y la contaminación de la tierra. Esta investigación evaluó el uso de extractos naturales de Citrus sinensis y Citrus latifoliaobtenidos mediante el método de reflujo con etanol, hexano y cloroformo, evaluando la mortalidad realizando recuentos durante 72 h. Los extractos de C. latifolia, obtenidos con etanol y cloroformo, mostraron alta eficacia como insecticida, alcanzando entre el 75\% y 80\% de mortalidad durante las primeras 12 h, mientras que los extractos de C. sinensis obtenidos con cloroformo y etanol mostraron valores menores al 50\% durante las primeras 24 h, demostrando en ambos casos ser una alternativa prometedora en el control de Ae. Mosquitoes are significantly important in public health as they transmit many vector-borne diseases like dengue fever (DF), malaria, and filariasis to millions of people worldwide. Although there is no effective vaccination for the prevention of dengue, avoiding mosquito bites is one method to control mosquito populations. Due to the extensive uses of synthetic repellent,’ mosquitoes established resistance against them. The plant-based extracts are used as an alternative to targeted insecticides. Therefore, current study aimed to examine the oviposition-deterrent, larvicidal and repellent efficacy of plant-based extracts Clove (Syzygium aromaticum), Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum), Lemon (Citrus limon), Orange (Citrus sinensis), Onion (Allium cepa), Garlic (Allium sativum), Lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus), and Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) against Aedes aegypti under laboratory conditions. The maximum repellency was observed by clove, and lemon peel plant extract compared to all other botanical plants. However, lemon, clove, garlic, onion, and garlic with lemongrass are promising for oviposition control. While, clove, lemon peel, orange and lemon peels, and lemongrass combination for larvicidal control. In terms of repellents, the most suspected repellent plants showed by the combinations of (Olive oil, lemon peel, citrus peel, lemongrass, Aloe vera), (Olive oil, lemon peel, citrus peel, lemongrass), (Olive oil, lemon peels, citrus peels, Aloe vera), such as 19.85, 19.85,19.84 repellency value along with 100% protection time up to 1 h. The establishment of plant-based products against Aedes aegypti, complemented with insecticidal activity, could lead to an innovative approach to managing mosquito populations and disease vectors.

Background: Dengue fever and Zika are two of the Aedes-borne diseases. Despite being widely used, synthetic mosquitocides become abortive for the mosquito control due to growing resistance and environmental pollution. In Gia Lai province (dengue-endemic area), a huge amount of cashew nut shell waste with roughly 100,000 tons/year has been disposed of into the environment, potentiating a high risk of pollution. Methodology/Principal findings: To utilize it, anacardic acid was extracted and combined it with ethanol extract of the local lime peel, which contains limonene, to generate APL formulation. APL robustly exhibited inhibition of egg hatching, larvicidal effect, and repellent effect against female mosquitoes from oviposition sites in the laboratory and field. The results showed that, at a dose of 12.5 ppm, the APL formulation after 24 hours of treatment demonstrated oviposition deterrence against Ae. aegypti (43.6%) and Ae. albopictus (59.6%); inhibited egg hatching of Ae. aegypti (49.6%) and Ae. albopictus (59.6%); caused larval lethality in Ae. aegypti (LC 50 = 9.5 ppm, LC 90 = 21 ppm) and Ae. albopictus (LC 50 = 7.6 ppm, LC 90 = 18 ppm). Under natural field conditions, it showed a 100% reduction in larval density after 48 and 72 hours of the APL treatment at a tested concentration of 120 mg a.i./m 2 and maintained a mortality rate of 100% in the next 14 days. Conclusions/Significance: The APL formulation is promisingly to become an environmentally friendly and highly effective biological product for future management programs of dengue and Zika-transmitting vectors. Here offer prospects in controlling critical illnesses transmitted by several mosquito species in dengue-endemic areas.
