The ongoing age is the time of sustainability, where in the current pandemic scenario, which is getting worse, needs treatment with nature rather than chemical-based products. In this study, microwaves (M.W. rays) treatments as extraction mode for Esfand ( P. harmala) have been revived for polyamide (nylon) dyeing. The water solubilized and acid solubilized filtrates and polyamide (nylon fabrics) were treated M.W. rays up to 10 min with an interval of 2 min. Mordanting with chemicals and plant extracts before and after dyeing was done at 60°C–80°C. It has been found the application of M.W. ray treatment for 4 min., to 30 mL of extract of 8 pH containing 4 g/100 mL of Table salt as leveling agent has given desired results when employed at 55°C for 55 min. Statistical analysis of dyeing variables through R.S.M., and two way-Anova shows that the effect of these variables has been observed highly significant. Experimentally it has been observed that the application of extract for dyeing of polyamide (nylon fabric) has given good results when chemical or bio-mordanted at selected conditions. Practically, Esfand seeds has ability for bio-coloration of surface modified polyamide fabric (nylon fabric), and utilization of pomegranate extract as bio-mordant and tannic acid as sustainable chemical mordant has furnished colorfast shades.

Natural dye was extracted from the petals of orange-colored marigold flowers in aqueous medium, and extraction process parameters were optimized based on the color yield (optical density) of an aqueous extract of marigold petals. The extracted natural colorant was used to dye jute fabric and characterized by ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy. Extracts from gallnut and natural alum (fitkiri) were applied as mordants onto the bleached jute fabric by padding method followed by drying in air. The fabrics were treated with the mordants separately before dyeing, and then, both mordants were applied in sequence. Jute was premordanted first with gallnut followed by alum. Jute fibers were mordanted prior to dyeing with either gallnut or alum or both mordants (gallnut followed by alum treatment). Premordanted jute fabric was dyed with the natural dye extracted from marigold petals, and process conditions were standardized. The dual-mordanting process was found more effective to produce better color yield than the single mordanting process. Standardization of the process conditions was also examined statistically by the Box–Behnken design method after choosing the significant variables by the Plackett–Burman design method. The standardized dyeing process conditions were found to be dyeing temperature: 90°C; material to liquor ratio: 1:40; dyeing time: 60 min; dye concentration: 30% o.w.f.; and pH: 11.

Dyes are substances that enhance the appearance of finished goods by providing uniform colour. Dyeing is the application process of dyes that are fixed in textile fibers. The dyeing process uses various steps, including pre-treatment, desizing, scouring, bleaching, carbonizing, degumming, and mercerization. Water is considered the primary medium for applying dyes and other chemicals for this treatment in the dyeing process. The dyeing process contains many toxic chemicals, metals and non-soluble substances, such as wastewater, which is thrown into the environment. It is noted that, during dyeing , around 50-300 liters of water is required for 1 kg of fiber. On the other hand, 1-2 million liters of water are needed every day for 50,000 meters of daily production. This massive amount of toxic wastewater is highly harmful to the environment, human health, aquatic system, soil, air, water, plants, and animals. This review paper states various dyeing processes with different dyes, including acid dye, direct dye, sulfur dye, reactive dye, vat dye, metal complex dye, azo dye, disperse dye, and basic dye. In contrast, it also describes the influencing factors of dyeing processes and methods. Moreover, this review demonstrates the impacts of textile dyes on the environment (water, soil, air emissions, human health) and illustrates possible remedial actions regarding wastewater.
