Optimization of Hydrogen Peroxide Detection for a Methyl Mercaptan Biosensor

Abstract: Several kinds of modified carbon screen printed electrodes (CSPEs) for amperometric detection of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) are presented in order to propose a methyl mercaptan (MM) biosensor. Unmodified, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPC), Prussian blue (PB), and Os-wired HRP modified CSPE sensors were fabricated and tested to detect H2O2, applying a potential of +0.6 V, +0.6 V, +0.4 V, −0.2 V and −0.1 V (versus Ag/AgCl), respectively. The limits of detection of these electrodes for H2O2 were… Show more

“…In the present work, Carbon Screen‐Printed Electrodes modified by electrodeposited Prussian Blue (PB/CSPEs) were used as sensitive transducers for H 2 O 2 detection 5. To improve their stability, those PB/CSPEs were protected using a poly‐( O ‐phenylenediamine) (PPD) film 6.…”

“…274 More sensitive for H 2 O 2 (13.7 nM) were carbon screen-printed electrodes with osmiumwired horseradish peroxidase modifications. 275 Already in 2003, Xu et al presented H 2 O 2 sensors functionalized as colloidal gold modified screen-printed carbon electrodes. The enzyme horseradish peroxidase was additionally immobilized on the electrode, which then showed sensitivity for H 2 O 2 in the range of 400 to 800 nM.…”

“…Among the mediator based modified electrodes, HRP is the most commonly used material for the modification of the electrode in the last decade (Lin et al, 2000 ; Camacho et al, 2007 ; Radi et al, 2009 ; Ahammad, 2013 ). The sensitivity and selectivity of H 2 O 2 biosensor depends on the material used and modifications involved (Lin et al, 2000 ; Nakabayashi and Yoshikawa, 2000 ; Yao et al, 2005 ; Wang and Zhang, 2006 ; Camacho et al, 2007 ; Radi et al, 2009 ; Inoue et al, 2010 ; Li et al, 2013 ). The mechanism of detection of H 2 O 2 biosensor is described in Scheme 1 .…”
