Ice Storage air-condition can be used to shift electrical load from on-peak hours to off-peak hours, which can bring mutual benefits to power supplier and consumers. An unsteady heat transfer numerical model is developed to predict the increment of thickness of ice layer of flake ice storage system with Cu-H2O nanofluids solidification. In this study, the speed of increment of ice layer of water and Cu-H2O nanofluids are compared.

Aiming at the problems of insufficient utilization of cooling capacity and low ice making efficiency in the ice making process of small household ice maker, a new type of water tank was designed by calculating and analyzing the cooling capacity in the ice making process of ice maker. Simulate the ice making process with software AnsysFluent, compare the ice production of ice maker with new and original water tank in the same time, and carry out experimental verification. The simulation result shows that 75.68% of the cooling capacity is wasted in the original water tank, and only 28.85% in the new water tank when ice making time is 9 mins. At the same time, the cold energy consumption in the new water tank is 43.34% lower than that of the original water tank, and the ice production is increased by 65.22%. The experiment result shows that the ice production of ice maker with the new water tank is increased by more than 75% when ice making time is between 8 and 10 mins; the ice production of ice maker with the new water tank is increased by more than 35% when ice making time is between 11 and 12 mins, and the optimization effect is obvious.

Theoretical approach of freeze seawater desalination on flake ice maker utilizing LNG cold energy

In this work, a novel concept in freeze desalination (FD) was introduced. Nowadays the total liquefied natural gas (LNG) production capacity has reached 290 Megatons per year. Its enormous cold energy released from re-gasification can be used in the freeze desalination process to minimize the overall energy consumption. A process of FD on flake ice maker utilizing LNG cold energy was designed and simulated by HYSYS software. An ice bucket on flake ice maker was chosen as seawater crystallizer mainly due to its continuous ice making and removing ice without heat source. A dynamic model of the freezing section has been developed and simulated through gPROMS software. The results show that the consumption of 1 kg equivalent LNG cold energy can obtain about 2 kg of ice melt water. In addition, it is shown that the power consumption of this LNG/FD hybrid process is negligible. Keywords:Freeze desalination; Flake ice maker; LNG cold energy; Dynamic modeling; Ice growth
