Optimization of oil extraction from locust bean using response surface methodology

Abstract: Optimization of oil extraction from locust beans (Parkia biglobosa) using central composite rotatable design of RSM was carried out. Independent variables were roasting temperature (90, 100, 110, 120, 130°C) and roasting duration (5, 10 15, 20, 25 min), while the responses were oil yield (OY), free fatty acid (FFA), color (CO), stability, anisidine value (AV), and specific gravity (SG). Data obtained from this study were analyzed using ANOVA and regression analysis. OY, FFA, CO, oil stability, AV, and SG of th… Show more

“…The moisture content obtained for untreated gourd seeds was 5.50 ± 0.30% wet basis. The moisture content of the seed was within the range of 2.90–6.20% wet basis as reported by Akinoso and Raji () for obtaining high yield and good quality of oil from oilseeds.…”

“…A reduction in the specific gravity of the oil was observed as the roasting duration and temperature increased. Reduction in specific gravity of the oil might be traced to thermal decomposition of fatty acid bond (Akinoso and Raji ). The specific gravity of the oil samples (0.841–0.971 g/mL) was within the range of the published data for three varieties of Lagenaria spp.…”

“…Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to model and optimize the conditions of oil extraction for walnut and almonds fruits (Montgomery, 2005;Akinoso and Raji, 2011;Martínez et al, 2012;2017;Martínez and Maestri, 2015). Experiments were planned by applying 3 2 factorial designs (Montgomery, 2005).…”
