Abstract:In this work we present a simple method for the characterization of a ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) optical modulator and the optimization of its contrast ratio. This device acts as switchable wave-plate, where the orientation of the principal axes rotates under the action of an applied bipolar voltage. It is designed to produce a binary intensity modulation when the phase shift introduced between the principal axes is equal to 180 degrees (half wave-plate). We present a simple technique to optimize its r… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
