Optimization of probiotic lactobacillus casei ATCC 334 production using date powder as carbon source

Abstract: This study was conducted to optimize culture conditions for economic production of a probiotic bacterium, Lactobacillus casei ATCC 334, in which palm date powder was applied for the first time as a low-cost main carbon source. The effect of eleven factors on bacterial growth was investigated using the Taguchi experimental design, and three factors including palm date powder, tryptone and agitation rate were found to be the most significant parameters. The optimum conditions including date powder concentr… Show more

“…In addition to their sugars resource and moderately long conservation period, dates offer many other technological possibilities. They are seen as raw materials for the production of different metabolites, biopolymers, organic acids, antibiotic, amino acids, enzyme, bakery yeast, and also the butanol and hydrogen (Shahravy et al, 2012;Qureshi et al, 2012;Abd-Alla et al, 2012;Aditiya et al, 2016). The present work consists of the realization of an experimental solar batch fermenter prototype operating with the solar water heater, in order to reduce the energy consumed and to ensure anaerobic fermentation medium for the CDPW dates juice at 30%, and for producing a high quality and quantity of bioethanol at low cost after distillation.…”

“…The total sugar content give the ranking; H'loua, Timjouhart H'mira and Tafezouine. The reducing sugars content for all varieties date powders obtained is not agreement with results (50g.L ) obtained by Shahravy et al [33] and results (60 ± 0,4%) for date powders observed by Benahmed et al [13]. The report Sugars/Water gives an idea of the osmotic pressure, the absorption capacity of power, energetic and nutritional value and the water activity (Aw) which influences the bacteria charge.…”
