“…Meanwhile, the experimental results of Zhang et al (2017) showed that the interior thermal insulation wall had the smallest heat flow value, which was less 35%–86% than the exterior thermal insulation wall and the sandwich thermal insulation wall under air-conditioning intermittent operation. The similar conclusions were obtained by the experimental research of Meng et al (2018b) on the thermal performance analysis of interior walls under heating intermittent operation in the same experimental platform with Zhang et al (2017).…”

“…Meng (2016) investigated air-conditioning operation behaviors in different climate zones and put forward the typical air-conditioning intermittent operation models suitable for the thermal environment requirement of China. Based on the proposed intermittent operation, the energy conservation optimization of envelops has been done (Meng et al, 2018b(Meng et al, , 2018cZhang et al, 2017). Meng et al (2018c) compared thermal performance of five typical wall insulation forms with the same heat transfer coefficient under air-conditioning intermittent operation and proposed that the interior insulation was more suitable for the wall insulation form with the highest energy-saving ratio of 52%-65%.…”

“…The position selected for thermal insulation within the external wall depends greatly on the climatic conditions. 39 For regions with continuous cooling loads, external insulation is more advisable. 16,37 Additionally, in the US six different climatic conditions were investigated 38 and it was found that external insulation was more effective than internal.…”

“…They indicated that outside insulation was more efficient in energy saving that inside insulation. Meng et al (2018) also indicated the better performance of the outside insulators for wall thermal insulation, compared to inside insulation. Results of this study also indicated that forecasting energy consumption by considering the construction conditions during the design stage can help to choose the best materials and construction methods for a given project as also emphasized by Zardo et al (2019).…”
