Orbital Dynamics Coupled with Jahn–Teller Phonons in Strongly Correlated Electron Systems

Abstract

Orbital-lattice coupled excitations are examined in e g orbital degenerate systems such as LaMnO 3 and KCuF 3. Both the local vibronic excitations and the superexchange-type inter-site interactions are dealt with on an equal footing. We adopt the generalized spin-wave approximation where local vibronic states are fully taken into account. Orbital exitation spectra are examined as functions of the Jahn-Teller coupling and anharmonic potential of the lattice vibrations.
