Organic‐Base‐Driven Intercalation and Delamination for the Production of Functionalized Titanium Carbide Nanosheets with Superior Photothermal Therapeutic Performance

Abstract: The delamination of titanium carbide sheets, an intriguing class of two-dimensional materials, has been critically dependent on the extraction of interlayer Al in acidic media, such as concentrated hydrofluoric acid (HF) or a mixture of hydrochloric acid (HCl) and a fluoride salt. Herein, we report an organic-base-driven intercalation and delamination of titanium carbide that takes advantage of the amphoteric nature of interlayer Al. The resulting aluminum-oxoanion-functionalized titanium carbide sheets manife… Show more

“…However, the above‐mentioned concentrated NaOH solution needs to be heated under a high temperature and pressure hydrothermal condition, which may also have safety concerns. Therefore, Cheng and co‐workers recently developed a moderate organic base etching method toward the delamination of Ti 3 AlC 2 , in which the tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAOH) was chosen as the etchant ( Figure ) . Commercially, TMAOH is an efficient Al etching ingredient.…”

“…[31][32][33][34][35][36][37] In the same context, reducing the lateral size of MXenes to the nanoscale may further increase their diversity. [39,40] Functionalized Ti 3 C 2 @PEG quantum dots have also been produced by a top-down hydrothermal method. For example, monolayered Ti 3 C 2 MXene quantum dots (Ti 3 C 2 MQDs) of 2.9 nm in size have been produced by a top-down hydrothermal method.…”
