Organic Mesopore and Micropore Structures and Their Effects on Methane Adsorption in Marine Organic-Rich Shales

Abstract: Organic pores in organic-rich shale reservoirs can provide major pore space for adsorbed and free gas storage. In this study, the organic micropore and mesopore structures in organic-rich shale reservoirs and their influence on gas adsorption are investigated by comparing CO 2 , N 2 , and methane adsorption isotherms for organic matter-combusted and non-combusted organic-rich shale samples taken from the Wufeng− Longmaxi Formation in the Sichuan Basin. Experimental results show that organic pores in organic-ri… Show more

“…As a widely distributed, efficient and clean gas energy, shale gas has been the key study direction of China’s energy development strategy in recent years. Block H in western Hubei-eastern Chongqing is a crucial area for shale gas development in Hubei province, and its Wujiaping Formation shale is the shale gas reservoir with the most exploration potential after the large-scale commercial development of Wufeng-Longmaxi Formation in Sichuan Basin. The Wujiaping Formation in this area is characterized by high organic abundance, moderate maturation, and favorable preservation conditions, and has attracted considerable attention from numerous domestic oil companies . Sinopec and PetroChina have carried out exploration and development plans targeting this strata.…”
