Software Product Line can be effectively tested with a framework utilization following Experimental Software Engineering concepts. During this research, a description of an Operational Maturity Structure for Software Testing Management was created for the Operational Domain of the Organizational Testing Management Maturity Model (OTM3) framework. The proposed structure addresses both the defects management and the measurement of software testing results, through a method using effective metrics. This structure allows to identify, to establish, and to keep the capabilities demanded by software testing maturity models.

SUMMARYSoftware process engineering is a discipline, which aims to study and improve software development and maintenance processes. The explicit definition of software processes is essential. To this end, the Object Management Group consortium proposed the Software & Systems Process Engineering Meta-Model (SPEM) that exploits the benefits of the Model Driven Architecture paradigm applied to software process models, instead of software specification models. The aim of this study is to discover evidence clusters and evidence deserts in the use and application of SPEM from a business process management point of view. To reach the proposed objective, we have undertaken a systematic mapping study of the existing scientific literature.The reviewed literature deals mainly with process modeling and, to a lesser extent, with process adaptability, verification, and validation, enactment and evaluation. Wide agreement exists in using the SPEM meta-model to develop different types of methods and processes. Further research efforts are needed in areas related to enactment and evaluation of software processes. There is a need to evolve to a new version of the meta-model that incorporates the improvements proposed by different authors.

Software free from defects is a goal to be ideally achieved. Defects in software do arise from the development process. A possible solution for quality improvement is to apply a reference framework for software testing during all development phases. What is needed is a software testing process performed along with its development, in an orderly and simple way, even if the software development have been conducted in an organization without maturity certification. This investigation proposes to validate the hypothesis: software product quality is dependent on the software testing. In order to verify and validate the proposed hypothesis, it was applied to a case study, in which the statistical technique for Pearson's ChiSquare was used to determine whether there is a significant relationship among the categorical variables based on software testing results. This case study was derived from an actual project at the Brazilian Aeronautics Institute of Technology and its preliminary results are promising.Keywords: categorical variables on software testing, software product quality, software testing management, software testing process improvement, statistical technique for Pearson's Chi-Square.
