OsbHLHq11, the Basic Helix-Loop-Helix Transcription Factor, Involved in Regulation of Chlorophyll Content in Rice

Abstract: Photosynthesis is an important factor in determining the yield of rice. In particular, the size and efficiency of the photosynthetic system after the heading has a great impact on the yield. Research related to high-efficiency photosynthesis is essential to meet the growing demands of crops for the growing population. Chlorophyll is a key molecule in photosynthesis, a pigment that acts as an antenna to absorb light energy. Improvement of chlorophyll content characteristics has been emphasized in rice breeding … Show more

“…In this study, the transgenic DoWRKY71 plants were treated with cold and ABA stress, indicating that DoWRKY71 is sensitive to environmental stress. Chlorophyll is an important part of the plant's photosynthetic apparatus for harvesting light chlorophyll content of the leaf is closely related to the photosynthetic function of the plant and represents the physiological state of the plant [51][52]. Under low temperature treatment, the change of chlorophyll content indicating that transgenic plants can improve their photosynthetic capacity by increasing chlorophyll content.…”

“…[27] stated that the length of the flag leaf can be used as a potential phenotypic marker for high production yields. According to [28], flag leaf has a great effect on the yield of rice. [29] stated that flag leaves provide the most important source of photosynthetic energy during grain reproduction and filling.…”

“…Chlorophyll and Car content are quantitative traits controlled by quantitative trait loci (QTLs). Studies on QTLs of chlorophyll and carotenoid have been conducted on various crops, such as rice (Jiang et al 2012;Jiang et al 2014;Jang et al 2022), wheat (Guo et al 2023), soybean (Wang et al 2020a;Yu et al 2020), and oilseeds (Ye et al 2020). Additionally, several genes encoding proteins involved in chlorophyll metabolism were identi ed, such as OsChlH, OsChlD, OsChlI, YGL1, NON-YELLOW COLORING1 (NYC1), YC1-LIKE (NOL), SGR, and NYC4 (Jung et al 2003; Zhang et al 2006;Jiang et al 2007; Kusaba et al 2007; Wu et al 2007;Sato et al 2009; Yamatani et al 2013).…”
