Ossified Particles in the Peripheral Circulation of Young and Old male Fischer‐344 Rats following Bone Marrow Ablation and Interleukin‐1 Receptor Antagonism
Abstract:BACKGROUND
A pro‐inflammatory marrow microenvironment presumably augments ossification in bone marrow blood vessels. We speculate that ossifying blood vessels results in bone‐like particles (i.e., ossified particles, OSP) in the peripheral blood. By performing bone marrow ablation (BMA) and administering an interleukin‐1 receptor antagonist (IL‐1RA) during recovery, we sought to reduce the number of OSP in the circulation.
METHODS
Young (6‐mon) and old (24‐mon) male Fischer‐344 rats were assigned accordingly: … Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
