“…In response to this possibility, we report no main effect of surgical status on immediate or delayed recall, thereby diminishing the likelihood that mere surgical status would be a differentiating factor in memory performance. Moreover, in further exploring the potential for group differences as a function of surgical status, we examined correlations between surgical status and SF-MPQ-2 total pain level ( r = 0.05, p = 0.25), as well as surgical status and functional disability (Oswestry neck pain disability index, Fairbanks et al 1980) ( r = 0.06, p = 0.11). It appears that decompressed CM patients in the present study did not have more severe symptoms than non-decompressed CM patients – so the surgery itself cannot account for the obtained interaction among surgical status, reported pain levels, and reflection.…”

“…The ODI 17,18 is a self-administered questionnaire measuring “back-specific function” on a 10-item scale with 6 response categories each. Each item scores from 0 to 5, which is transformed into a 0 to 100 scale.…”

“…We regarded the subjects who answered “yes” to the following question: “Do you feel low back pain in your daily life lately?” as subjects with LBP. The ODI is one of the most widely used scales to assess disability related to LBP 18,19 ; therefore, we used the ODI score to assess functional outcomes associated with LBP. The ODI consists of 10 questions regarding the ability to perform day‐to‐day activities that are designed to assess how severely LBP affects everyday life.…”
