“…With increasing age, this EEG pattern matures and continuous high-voltage, low-frequency EEG predominates during quiet sleep in human infants after 2 months of age (Werner et al, 1977). High-voltage slow-wave activity has also been reported in more mature, nonhuman primate infants (Meier, 1965) and in fetal sheep (Dawes et al, 1972;Ruckebusch, 1972;Szeto & Hinman, 1985). The infants in the current study were under 38 weeks PCA, and therefore, EEGs were analyzed using EEG-Ratio which was specifically designed to detect the presence or absence of TA.…”

“…Though age is probably a relevant factor, this variable, like experiences with pregnancy and parturition, has been studied minimally in monkeys (Pryce, 1995). Meier (1965) remarked that it is not clear whether experience or maturation is the more important factor with respect to the development of adequate maternal behavior in rhesus monkeys. In a group of free-ranging rhesus monkeys, Drickamer (1974) assessed that young had lower chances of survival when their mothers were 3-5 years old than if they were 6 years old, but he provided no behavioral data.…”

“…However. Meier (1965) found no such effect in rhesus monkeys, and Harper (l968) failed to find that social isolation affected the male or female social behavior of guinea pigs. In rats the data are also contradictory.…”
