Outsourcing logistics operations in circular economy towards to sustainable development goals

Abstract: One of novel manners to achieve sustainable development is concentrating on circular economy in order to manage greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, and waste. It also helps to protect the environment and optimize usage of input resources. The main element of circular economy is closed-loop supply chain which covers both forward and reverse products flows. This study aims to outsource logistics operations in a closed-loop supply chain. An innovative analytical multi-step fuzzy decision-making method i… Show more

“…There are several literature reviews on CSC (Batista, Bourlakis, Liu, et al, 2018; Batista, Bourlakis, Smart, et al, 2018; Farooque et al, 2019; González‐Sánchez et al, 2020; Lahane et al, 2020; Masi et al, 2017) where the integration of forward and reverse flows is pointed out as crucial for the CE concept (Zarbakhshnia & Goh, 2022). In these studies, other concepts such as sustainable supply chain (Hussain & Malik, 2020) and green supply chain (Nasir et al, 2017) were addressed to contextualize CSC where closing the loop is not the principal focus (Geissdoerfer et al, 2018).…”

“…Nayal et al (2022) studied how CSC performance may be improved to achieve SDGs. Implementing a CSC with outsourced logistics operations is crucial for sustainable development (Zarbakhshnia et al, 2023). With a similar aim of achieving sustainable growth in the European Union, Georgescu et al (2022) investigated the causalities of CE and economic developments and analyzed their dependencies.…”

“…The author decided to connect the contemporary conceptions of coordination, centralized demand forecasting and the influence of 3PL in today's market to the considerations about the possibility of transferring the function of coordination (in the area of logistics operation in a distribution network) to the logistics service provider. Nowadays, the usage of outsourcing in the field of logistics is usually aimed at providing environmental sustainability [9] and supporting other companies that are striving towards achieving the sustainable development goals [10]. In the author's opinion, expanding the operations of 3PL in DN will also provide benefits in the field of sustainability.…”
