“…The current first-line treatment strategy for EOC is intensive surgical cytoreduction, followed by systemic chemotherapy with a platinum- or taxane-based regimen (17). However, advanced EOC [International Federation of Gynecological Oncology stages III–IV (18)] accounts for ~75% of total patients diagnosed with ovarian cancer with low (5-year) survival rates and a high recurrence rate of ~80% with failure to respond to conventional chemotherapy (19). Thus, it is necessary to develop novel chemotherapeutic approaches to increase the susceptibility of EOC to novel treatments, in order to improve the median progression-free survival and overall survival times.…”

“…Peritoneal fluid cytology was negative. Consequently, overall staging (according to revised FIGO criteria) [4] and grading was concluded as stage 1C1 (due to surgical aspiration) high-grade IT. After surgery, surveillance AFP levels returned to within the normal range within two months ( Fig.…”

“…13,14 The detection of malignant ascites is an integral step in the clinical assessment of ovarian cancer. 15 Furthermore, malignant ascitic fluid is a major contributor to ovarian cancer progression and poor prognoses, 16 and is consequently closely monitored by oncologists. Many of these statistics arise from factors within the tumor microenvironment; therefore, it is critical to consider their role when striving to understand and devise treatment strategies to improve patient outcomes.…”
