Oviposition preference and biological performance of Ceratitis capitata in Anacardiaceae, Cactaceae and Vitaceae fruit

Show more

“…Caatinga, Mossoró, v.37: e11814, 2024 3 of 6 parameters may be related to variations in C. capitata populations, such as the nutritional and physicochemical characteristics of the hosts. In general, the puparium or mass size is an indication of adult size, as observed by Leite et al (2019). No significant difference was observed for larval period length (F-test = 0.05, p˃0.05) between the two types of fruits (Figure 1D).…”

“…According to Plácido-Silva, Zucoloto and Joachim-Bravo (2005), foods with low protein content, such as star fruit, reduce the larval size and, consequently, pupal mass. In general, the puparium or mass size is an indication of adult size (LEITE et al, 2019).…”

“…Even in inappropriate hosts, in an attempt to leave offspring, fruit flies can oviposit on these substrates (Aluja and Mangan, 2008). In the absence of a primary host, C. capitata searches for an alternative host, such as Opuntia ficus-indica (L.) Mill and Pereskia bahiensis Gürke, to ensure offspring survival, even though they are poorly suited hosts for larval development (Leite et al ., 2017; Leite et al ., 2019).…”
