Ownership, technology gap and technical efficiency of small and medium manufacturing firms in Vietnam: A stochastic meta frontier approach

Abstract: The ownership-efficiency relationship in a firm has always been an important topic. In this paper, we focus on the state owned versus non-state-owned status of Vietnamese manufacturing firms, to shed light into the relationship between these two variables when using a more stateof-the-art method as a stochastic meta-frontier method. Applying the method for two periods: one during the global economic crisis and the other after the end of the crisis, the study determines that in both periods, there was a strong … Show more

“…The studies on technical efficiency at the firm level in Vietnam in recent years often apply the data envelope model, the basic stochastic frontier model, and the meta frontier model (Minh et al, 2007;Ho, 2012;Le et al, 2018;Nguyen et al, 2019). Minh et al (2007) 2019) used the stochastic meta-frontier model of Huang et al (2014) to estimate.…”

“…However, these resources are not successful in the protection against foreign competition. Therefore, when trade barriers are lifted, these domestic producers shift from their protective activities to the more productive innovative activities that are necessary to sustain their international competitiveness (Nguyen et al, 2018;Lucas, 1998;Wolfgang, 2001).…”
