Oxidation Reduction is a Key Process for Successful Treatment of Psoriasis by Narrow-band UVB Phototherapy

Abstract: Narrow-band UVB (NB-UVB) phototherapy is commonly used for treatment of psoriasis, though the mechanisms underlying its efficacy have not been completely elucidated. We used gene expression profiling to characterise gene expression in lesional epidermis from psoriasis patients in the middle and late stages of NB-UVB photo-therapy. Increased melanogenesis gene expression was the earliest response to phototherapy. At the end of treatment, genes responding to phototherapy and correlated to treatment outcome were … Show more

“…UVB radiation is a well-established and highly efficacious treatment for the management of psoriasis (21)(22)(23)(24)(25). Increased T-cell apoptosis, induction of vitamin D and reduced epidermal and endothelial proliferation are known key factors in the anti-inflammatory effect of UVB radiation (26,27,(44)(45)(46)(47)(48). In the present study, NB-UVB treatment regimen was moderately effective for our patients, with 47% reaching PASI75.…”

“…The cycling conditions were set as follows: enzyme activation at 95 °C for 3 min, 40 cycles of denaturation at 95 °C for 15 sec and annealing/extension at 60 °C for 60 sec. For OAS2 mRNA levels in psoriasis, we used our previous published gene expression array data of the same material25.…”

“…Çünkü metotreksat, dar bant UVB fototerapi, antitümör nekrozis faktör-α PAŞİ skorlarında düzelme, oksidasyon ve lipit peroksidasyon ürünlerinde azalma ile birliktedir (39)(40)(41) . Oksidatif stresin daha yüksek saptandığı uzun hastalık süresi ve PAŞİ skorlarının karşılaştırılması ile bu kısıtlılığı azaltmaya çalıştık.…”
