Oxidative DNA Damage Mediated by Intranuclear MMP Activity Is Associated with Neuronal Apoptosis in Ischemic Stroke

Abstract: Evidence of the pathological roles of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in various neurological disorders has made them attractive therapeutic targets. MMPs disrupt the blood-brain barrier and cause neuronal death and neuroinflammation in acute cerebral ischemia and are critical for angiogenesis during recovery. However, some challenges have to be overcome before MMPs can be further validated as drug targets in stroke injury. Identifying in vivo substrates of MMPs should greatly improve our understanding of the… Show more

“…Effect of CA on ψ m of A. flavus Cells ψ m is known to promote cell death and to act as a protease in the extracellular matrix (Kimura-Ohba and Yang, 2016). In this study, we used fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry In all statistical analysis, * p < 0.05, * * p < 0.01, and * * * p < 0.001 when compared with the 0 mg/ml CA.…”

“…; Turner and Sharp ). Enhanced MMP‐9 degrades BBB integrity, consequently exacerbating the adverse effects exerted by oxidative stress and inflammatory cytokines on neurons, ultimately promoting the apoptosis of injured neurons (Kimura‐Ohba and Yang ). In this study, BCP pre‐treatment dramatically mitigated IL‐1β, IL‐6 and TNF‐α levels following OGD/R.…”
