P‐195: Equivalent Lifetime Method to Improve OLED Luminance Degradation

Abstract: Equivalent lifetime method to estimate the luminance degradation degree and improve the lifetime of the OLEDs was proposed. The equivalent lifetime was calculated by converting the display time at different luminance with the same degradation degree with ascertained luminance decay curve. The calculation accuracy can reach 99.98% and lifetime can extend 13.3%.

“…The external compensation, [4][5][6] using extra sensing circuits to detect the electrical characteristics and to access the OLED degradation status, has technical challenges in achieving for the reliable data from low level signal and in managing side effects caused by the complicated sensing circuit operation. On the other hand, the data-counting methods [7][8][9][10] could be simple without the sensing analog circuitry, but the accuracy is limited due to panel-to-panel characteristic deviation. Nevertheless, these are realistic alternatives for the mobile devices designed in a cost-effective manner.…”

“…[25][26][27][28] Luminance degradation estimation is the precondition of OLED lifetime extension 29 without external or internal compensation circuits. However, the influence of ambient temperature on equivalent lifetime of OLED was neglected, 30 which cause inaccurate parameters estimation of luminance degradation model at variable ambient temperature.…”
