P‐44: Long Lifetime and High Performance OLED Display with Wide Temperature Range for Automotive Application

Abstract: We have developed a long lifetime OLED display by optimizing each organic layer materials. The lifetime of the new developed blue OLED under 50 mA/cm 2 driving at 85 °C was improved more than four times compared with the previously developed OLED, and achieved longer than 1,500 hours in a real use. The developed OLED display would be useful for automotive application.

“…Compared to liquid crystal displays (LCDs), the image quality of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) at both low and high temperature atmosphere was more stable, which made them more suitable in automotive application [1] . However, automotive displays with high brightness often worked in extreme conditions of heat or humidity over long operation time, which raised severer requirements than consumer electronics displays.…”

“…Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with flexible substrate and thin film encapsulation (TFE) can easily be constructed for vehicle applications, even in foldable and roll-able shapes. Furthermore, the OLEDs have more excellent optical performance than LCDs, such as the rapid response time in wide temperature range, large viewing angle, and so on [2][3][4] . Based on these outstanding characteristics, AMOLED display was considered as the most prospective candidate to realize the demands for future automotive display.…”

“…Besides this, optimization of a carrier balance between hole and electron is also important because it is known that the lifetime is definitely affected by this balance inside the emission layer (EML) [3][4][5][6]. With the above-mentioned approaches, the lifetime of the blue OLED was achieved four times longer than that of the previously selected material stack [7]. The lifetimes for the green and red OLEDs were also improved by the approaches similar to those of the blue OLED [8].…”
