P-83: Side-emitting LED for Ultra-Thin Direct LED Backlight

Abstract: A LED direct backlight system with ultra‐thin thickness by employing side emitting LEDs is proposed. The lens cap on the LEDs is with metal reflection coating to re‐direct the light to emit from the side of LED. Prior to this method, the light mixing cavity of a LED Backlight module is thicker than 50mm for obtaining uniform illumination.
