“…To our knowledge, this is the first validated endoscopic score using the new generation of virtual chromoendoscopy endoscopes in UC. The PICaSSO score performed better than the previously published i-SCAN score by Iacucci et al (12).…”

“…These techniques are currently available on all endoscopic platforms and provide better mucosal and vascular details than conventional WL endoscopy. Iacucci et al (12) have recently described an endoscopic scoring system using i-SCAN electronic virtual chromoendoscopy to assess inflammation in UC. They have shown that measure of abnormal vascular pattern may correlate with histologic indices.…”

“…We have previously described that HD i-scan colonoscopy can better characterize vascular patterns clearly and therefore the description of loss of vascular pattern or obliterated in UC by Mayo and UCEIS endoscopic score has been replaced by more detailed description of the abnormalities of vascular pattern such as isolated spiral drop-out vessels by using EVC. We also described and redefined the abnormal mucosal pattern separately under i-scan (15). In the UCEIS system the mucosal pattern was described separately but mainly based on erosions and ulcers.…”

“…The new modified OE-iscan virtual chromoendoscopy score was developed based on the our iscan score previously described in our manuscript. (15). The new modified score included all the spectrum of acute and chronic mucosal and vascular changes with more detailed definition of MH .…”

“…This study builds on the lead author's previous report that the application of i-Scan EVC in assessment of vascular patterns may correlate with inflammation in UC as defined by histologic analysis. 10 The score was developed through review of the Mayo endoscopic subscore, UC Endoscopic Index of Severity (UCEIS), and i-Scan score and then a teaching module of 5 videos and 70 endoscopic still pictures presented for feedback and discussion. This module represented the entire range of mucosal and vascular changes of inflammation in UC, including mucosal healing.…”
