“…Adenovirus pneumonia is uncommon in patients with AIDS. It has been reported in 7.4% of patients with HIV with community-acquired pneumonia 102 but is almost always associated with multiple other pathogens including CMV, herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 2, pneumocystis jiroveci, hepatitis A and B, Epstein Barr virus, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Candida albicans, Mycobacterium avium, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Cryptosporidium parvum, Cryptococcus neoformans, varicella-zoster virus (VZV), enteroviruses, Treponema pallidum, molluscum contagiosum virus, and Histoplasma capsulatum. Because of the prevalence of multiple opportunistic infections, it is difficult to ascribe mortality related to adenovirus infection alone.…”
