Paediatric case report: primary antiphospholipid syndrome presented with non‐thrombotic neurological picture psychosis; treat by antidepressants alone?

Abstract: The classical clinical picture of antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS) is characterized by venous and arterial thrombosis, fetal losses and thrombocytopenia in the presence of anticardiolipin antibodies and/or lupus anticoagulant. APS can occur either as a primary disorder or secondary to a connective tissue disease, most frequently systemic lupus erythematosus. “…One extreme, exceptional case was that of a 9-yearold girl with a psychotic illness and persistently positive aPL with negative antinuclear antibodies, who improved remarkably under antipsychotics, low-dose aspirin and hydroxychloroquine, and then developed axillary vein thrombosis after stopping low-dose aspirin treatment. 32 Mood disorders, i.e., mental health conditions that primarily affect the emotional state have also been reported in cases of patients positive for aPL, although more recently than cases involving psychosis, which date back to the first decade of the 21 st century.…”
