PAPR Reduction in OFDM Signal by Incorporating Mu-Law Companding Approach into Enhanced PTS Scheme

Abstract: Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a potential transmission approach for high capacity communication systems. Despite the many advantages of OFDM, the major downside is the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) which increases the system complexity, reduces the efficiency of the system, causes degradation in BER performance, and makes OFDM sensitive to nonlinear distortion in the transmission. Various methods have been proposed to deal with the PAPR problem, including the partial transmit s… Show more

“…Every PAPR reduction method has its limit on how much it can reduce the peak power in the OFDM system. Therefore, to further improve its reduction capability a hybrid method has been proposed as a solution for this issue [13,14,15]. Through hybridization, two or more methods can be combined to produce a new method with better PAPR reduction and at the same time will slightly increase the complexity.…”

“…A combination of precoding with RCF was employed to reduce PAPR in OFDM system was carried out by Dubey and Gupta [45]. A hybrid scheme that combines enhanced PTS and Mu-Law companding for PAPR reduction in OFDM system has been presented by Ibraheem et al [46]. In order to solve the problem of computational complexity that is associated with selected mapping (SLM), Sudha and Kumar [47] used a time domain sequence separation to provide low complexity PAPR reduction in SLM-OFDM system.…”

“…The OFDM structure has many advantages including high spectral efficiency, parrying interference, as well as sturdiness against signal disappearance [1]. It is habitually utilized in numerical acoustic plus record dissemination, and portable interactive media [2,3]. Conversely, OFDM is apt large peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), which result in nonlinear distortion of the power amplifiers and weaken the performance of the OFDM system; this is common in Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) [4,5] and Mode Division Multiplexing [6,7].…”
