Parafac and PLS Applied to Determination of Captopril in Pharmaceutical Preparation and Biological Fluids by Ultraviolet Spectrophotometry

Abstract: A new ultraviolet spectrophotometric method has been developed for the direct qualitative determination of captopril in pharmaceutical preparation and biological fluids such as human plasma and urine samples. The method was accomplished based on parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC) and partial least squares (PLS). The study was carried out in the pH range from 2.0 to 12.8 and with a concentration from 0.70 to 61.50 microg ml(-1) of captopril. Multivariate calibration models PLS at various pH and PARAFAC were ela… Show more

“…The analytical profile of the drug with several references describing its determination in pharmaceutical preparations and in biological fluids up to 1982 has been reviewed [34]. Different spectrophotometric procedures have been reported for the determination of CAP; these include reaction with promethazine [35], palladium II chloride in Britton-Robinson buffer [36], 2,4-dinitroflurobenzene in borate buffer [37], Ellman reagent [38], DTNB [39], chloramines-T [40], chloranilic acid [41], iodate [42], copper II-neocuproine [43], 1,10-phenanthroline [44], potassium ferricyanide [45], carbon disulfide in alkaline medium [46], partial least squares spectrophotometry [47], kinetic spectrophotometry [48], derivative spectrophotometry [49]. Captopril has been assayed spectroflurometrically either after reaction with different organic modifiers [50,51] or after reduction of Ce (IV) to fluorescent Ce (III) [52,53].…”

“…The drug has been also assayed by potentiometry [60,61] and anodic polarography [62]. Also, conductimetric titration [63] and atomic absorption spectrophotometry after complexation with palladium [64] or chelation of its trithiocarbamate derivative with divalent metals [46] have been applied for its determination. The drug and its degradation products have been determined by capillary electrophoresis [65].…”

“…Spectrofluorimetric determination of aflatoxin B1 in wheat by PARAFAC as a second-order standard addition method was reported by Hashemi et al [152]. Niazi and Ghasemi [153,154] applied PARAFAC for the determination of captopril in pharmaceutical preparations and biological fluids by ultraviolet spectrophotometry. Spectrophotometric determination of tetracycline in pharmaceutical formulation and biological fluids [155] and determination of riboflavin in human plasma by excitationemission matrix fluorescence and multiway analysis [156] were reported by Niazi et al It should be noted that the cited articles were selected from among nearly 44 papers the multiway field that have been published by Iranian chemometricians.…”

“…Applications of PLS have been discussed by several researches. [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12] Several spectrophotometric methods have been reported for the determination of Al(III) and Fe(III) utilizing common chromogenic reagents 13 . These procedures are good examples for sensitive but rather non-selective methods.…”
