Parametric analysis of lightning stroke incidence to HV transmission line towers

Abstract: SUMMARYA parametric analysis of lightning stroke incidence to high voltage (HV) transmission line towers is presented in this paper. It is based on a mathematical model that accounts for the transmission line geometry, keraunic level, statistical distribution of lightning current parameters and correlation between statistical variables defining the lightning current waveshape. Theoretical analysis is backed by the most recent propositions of parameters that define statistical distributions and then applied to … Show more

“…Such an overvoltage does not have a decisive role in determining the number of insulators compared with the overvoltage caused by lightning or switching. However, these calculations should be used to determine the minimum air gap between conductor and the tower body at the maximum variations in insulator chain . Determining the class and degree of pollution in the region where transmission lines are located is of paramount importance, because the pollution class plays a direct role not only in choosing the type and number of insulators but also in determining conductors used in lines (to prevent corrosion of wires).…”

“…1), i.e. the conductor of rectangular section for which b>>a, the magnetic field generated by the direct current or slow alternating sinusoidal current I at any point X(x,y,z) is determined much easier than in case of rectangular bus [1,2], because the result is obtained after single integration [1]. However, if we already have solutions of studies [1,3] at our disposal, then we can determine the magnetic field components through determination of limits of these functions when the crosswise dimension of the busduct is a0.…”
