Parathyroid adenoma detected with 99mTc-tetrofosmin dual-phase scintigraphy: a case report

Abstract: BackgroundTc-sestamibi is the most frequently used radionuclide agent for the detection of parathyroid adenomas in the clinical setting. However, Tc-tetrofosmin is another such agent that may be used for this purpose. This case report presents the significance and practicality of 99mTc-tetrofosmin for the diagnosis of parathyroid adenomas with probable high p-glycoprotein levels.Case presentationA 45-year-old woman was referred to our Nuclear Department with a palpable neck nodule suspicious for parathyroid ad… Show more

“…In some cases, PHPT could also manifest normocalcemic conditions due to a vitamin D deficiency, low serum albumin levels, excessive hydration, a high-phosphate diet, and low calcium levels in the normal range [13], [14]. In such cases, the laboratory results show concurrent levels of calcium and parathyroid hormone (PTH), with normal levels of FT4 and TSH, normal kidney function, and no signs of infection.…”

“…Tc-99m tetrofosmin is commonly used for myocardial perfusion imaging agent, mainly at Harapan Kita Cardiac Hospital, Jakarta and Hasan Sadikin General Hospital, Bandung [1]. However, in recent year the use of Tc-99m tetrofosmin has been expanding not only for myocardial imaging but also for detection of several tumors and cancers such as brain cancer (glioma, glioblastoma, and meningioma), breast cancer and parathyroid adenoma [2][3][4][5]. The chemical structure of Tc-99m tetrofosmin has been discussed elsewhere [6].…”
