In recent years, the pervasive issue of school bullying has surfaced as a focal point of concern, given its deep-seated implications on the mental and emotional well-being of adolescents. This paper seeks to unearth the complex relationship between parenting styles - classified as authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and uninvolved - and the prevalence of bullying behaviours among adolescents in school environments. Through a meticulous analysis of recent empirical studies, the paper highlights the significant influence parenting styles exert on a child’s developmental trajectory, molding their attitudes, behaviours, and peer interactions. Particularly, the study underscores the role of authoritative parenting as a protective factor against bullying, fostering resilience and positive peer relations. In contrast, authoritarian and uninvolved parenting styles may potentially fuel bullying tendencies due to the absence of warmth and the establishment of rigid rules and severe punishments. The paper further identifies a notable gap in current research, emphasizing the necessity for comprehensive studies that integrate cultural nuances to develop culturally sensitive intervention strategies. In aiming to pave the way for safer and more nurturing school environments, this research illuminates the potential strategies through parental interventions to mitigate the negative impacts of bullying, promoting positive child and adolescent development globally.

The impact of electronic health literacy on emotional management ability among college students: the mediating roles of peer relationships and exercise self-efficacy

Objective This study aims to explore electronic health literacy’s impact on college students’ emotional management ability and analyze the chained mediating effects of peer relationships and exercise self-efficacy. Methods The study used stratified, cluster, and staged sampling methods to collect demographic information. Electronic health literacy, peer relationships, exercise self-efficacy, and emotional management ability data were collected among college students using the Questionnaire Star software. A total of 30,105 valid questionnaires were obtained, with a valid response rate of 98.7%. Using Process Model 6, investigated how electronic health literacy sequentially influences emotional management ability through mediators such as peer relationships and exercise self-efficacy. Results There was a significant positive correlation between electronic health literacy and emotional management ability ( r = 0.496, P < 0.01), between electronic health literacy and peer relationships ( r = 0.226, P < 0.01), and between electronic health literacy and exercise self-efficacy ( r = 0.180, P < 0.01). Peer relationships were significantly positively correlated with exercise self-efficacy ( r = 0.142, P < 0.01) and emotional management ability ( r = 0.396, P < 0.01). Exercise self-efficacy was significantly positively correlated with emotional management ability ( r = 0.339, P < 0.01). Electronic health literacy significantly and positively predicted emotional management ability (β = 0.254, P < 0.001). There was a mediating effect of peer relationships between electronic health literacy and emotional management ability, accounting for 58.2% of the impact, 95%CI: [0.036,0.042]. Exercise self-efficacy also mediated the relationship between electronic health literacy and emotional management ability, accounting for 61.5% of the effect, 95%CI: [0.022,0.027]. Moreover, a chained mediating effect of peer relationships and exercise self-efficacy was observed between electronic health literacy and emotional management ability, accounting for 17.1% of the effect, 95%CI: [0.004,0.005]. Conclusion Electronic health literacy among college students can positively predict emotional management ability. Both peer relationships and exercise self-efficacy play a chained mediating role between electronic health literacy and emotional management ability.

The Prediction of Peer Bullying in Adolescents by Individual and Environmental Variables

This study aimed to examine the effects of individual (age, gender, frustration of basic psychological needs) and environmental (adolescent-parental relationships, friendship relations, victimization) variables on peer bullying in adolescents. The study group consisted of 831 middle and high school students, 516 girls (62.1%), and 315 boys (37.9%). The research data were obtained using the Personal Information Form, Friendship Qualities Scale, Adolescent-Parental Relationships Scale, Peer Bullying Scale Adolescent Form, Basic Psychological Needs Satisfaction, and Frustration Scale. Hierarchical Regression Analysis was used to analyze the data. According to the results obtained from the study, gender, age, frustration of basic psychological needs, adolescent-parent relationships, and victimization variables were found to be significant predictors of adolescents' bullying levels. In the model, the friendship relationships variable is not a significant predictor. In the study, it was determined that victimization was the strongest predictor, and the model explained approximately 34% of the bullying level of adolescents. The results obtained from this study show that individual and family-participated interventions can be effective in preventing peer bullying in adolescents.
