Parque Nacional da Serra do Itajaí (southern Brazil) shrub and herbs flora

Abstract: This paper aim to characterize the herbaceous and shrub species diversity of Parque Nacional da Serra do Itajaí (PNSI). We identified 643 herbaceous and shrub species distributed in 110 families being the most representative family Asteraceae (62 species), Melastomataceae (49) and Rubiaceae (30), besides a two new records for Santa Catarina (Thelypteris glaziovii T.F. Reed and Pseudelephantopus spiralis Cronquist). We recorded 22 exotic species. Thus, due to the vast diversity of life and the rather large terr… Show more

“…erefore, additional sampling e ort should be directed towards areas that have not yet reached a minimum value of sampling intensity, here indicated to be between 60-70% for a subtropical zone, in order to improve the oristic su ciency in each area (in the present case, for lycophytes and ferns), increasing precision and accuracy, and reducing the sampling bias (for further discussion, see Walther & Moore 2005). Well-sampled areas can still contain surprises, such as new records recently documented in certain protected areas (Funez & Gasper 2014), and therefore should not be ignored.…”

“…Ovary white, 7.9 × 3.6 mm. Itajaí, previous floristic studies dealing with shrubs and herbs did not record the genus (Funez and Gasper 2014). The small and disjunct populations of P. schenckii are probably maintained by means of autogamy (selfpollination), as already stated by Pansarin et al (2012) for P. nidus-avis.…”

“…Although Santa Catarina has a great history of field surveys and a well-known flora, many new records were made in recent years (Gasper et al 2013a(Gasper et al , 2013b(Gasper et al , 2014Funez and Gasper 2014;Hassemer et al 2015;Funez et al 2016), mostly provided by a large inventory survey performed in Santa Catarina (Vibrans et al 2010). This new record should encourage new field surveys, even in a region where, since the 1940s, botanical collection has been active (Reitz 1965).…”
