“…Environmental exposure to allergens in the context of an impaired skin barrier (as seen in AD) due to mutations in the filaggrin gene are thought to promote a cutaneous sensitization that could lead to development of food anaphylaxis (FA) (Sicherer and Leung 2015). Interestingly, in a previous study, some pigeon pea-allergic patients were found to have AD-like symptoms such as urticaria (Misra et al 2010). This suggested that, besides oral, an epicutaneous (EC) route could be a route for sensitization that could ultimately give rise to food-related anaphylaxis.…”

“…Further, out of 113 asthmatic patients, 8.8% patients were found to have positive reactions with pigeon pea allergen (Misra et al 2010). Pigeon pea contains five allergens, that is, Caj c1, Caj c2, Caj c3, Caj c4, Caj c5, that can induce allergic reaction in patient(s) suffering from nasobronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis and skin diseases (Misra et al 2010). The existence of potential cross-reactivity between pigeon pea allergens with other allergens from soy bean, green gram and chick peas has been previously reported (Misra et al 2010).…”
