Partial discharge current pulses in SF6and the effect of superposition of their radiometric measurement

Abstract: The practical advantages of employing non-contact radio frequency (RF) methods for detecting partial discharges (PDs) in high voltage equipment have led to significant effort being focused on the diagnosis of electrical plants using RF techniques. This has particularly been the case for gas insulated substations, which use sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) as an insulating medium. One of the most important challenges facing RF diagnostics is the problem of relating the RF emissions to some measure of severity of the … Show more

“…Investigation [14] indicates that these complex currents can achieve a significantly better match by higher order Gaussian functions compared with the Wanninger function and double exponential function. Based on the investigation, the BPNN method proposed in this paper will be used to fit this kind of complex corona currents, and a comparison with the multiple-order Gaussian function will be discussed.…”

“…The corona currents measured from discharge system II are all a damped oscillatory pulse in waveforms and can be treated as complex corona currents. According to [14], the order of the Gaussian functions was selected within 10th, and the fitting results are shown in Fig. 4.…”

“…Experimental setup is basically same as the previous study [1] which was further expanded the frequency bandwidth of the original system constructed by A.J.Reid, et al [3]. PD current waveforms were measured with the SHF_PDPW system that enables us to measure the PD current waveform precisely up to the SHF band depending on the frequency band of the used oscilloscope and attenuator.…”
