Partial Discharge Detection in Pressboards Immersed in Mineral Insulation Oil With Quantum Well Hall Effect Magnetic Field Sensors

Abstract: Insulation degradation may cause inefficient and faulty operation of transformers. The insulation failures in transformers mostly start with a Partial Discharge (PD) event. For both operational and cost reasons to ensure the best performance and functionality of transformers, early detection of PD events is of great importance. In this paper presents a novel PD detection technique by using a highly sensitive Quantum Well Hall Effect (QWHE) magnetic field sensor and compare the findings with an off-the-shelf si… Show more

“…Quantum sensors provide higher sampling rates, broader frequency ranges, and improved accuracy [4], which promise more comprehensive power quality monitoring, facilitating grid resilience and proactive maintenance [7,64]. In particular, quantum voltage and quantum frequency sensors offer higher accuracy, sensitivity, and broader frequency ranges [65][66][67]. These capabilities allow for the improved identification of grid disturbances, including fluctuations, harmonic distortions, and transient events, thus enabling the measures to ensure high power quality and grid resilience.…”

“…Te accumulation of long-term partial discharge (PD) of insulation media will eventually lead to the electrical breakdown of the entire insulation system, which will cause serious failures. Finding equipment discharge problems as soon as possible through the breakdown testing or realtime monitoring can efectively improve the system reliability and reduce the operation cost [1][2][3]. Gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) is a widely used high-voltage sealed switchgear in the current power system.…”
