“…The HOPE method uses the product of two heavy-to-light currents, where the heavy quark is quenched and its large mass gives further control of the power expansion compared to the OPE with light currents. This paper presents the theoretical background to the HOPE method, and serves as the companion paper to our numerical work [13] where the first lattice results using this approach are presented. As the HOPE approach is based on a modified OPE relation, a necessary step in the calculation is the determination of the Wilson coefficients beyond tree level which allows one to account for renormalization scheme and scale dependence more precisely and also improve the precision of the extracted local matrix elements.…”
