Passive Congregation Theory for Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO): an Application in Reservoir System Operation

Abstract: Particle swarm optimisation (PSO) is a very well-known method and has a strong background in optimisation filed to solve different non-linear, complex problems especially in creating the reservoir release policies. This research modified the particle updating process of the standard PSO algorithm by including the passive congregation (PC) theory. The passive congregation theory of natural being’s social behaviour is adopted to updated the standard PSO algorithm and used to develop and optimise a reservoir rele… Show more

“…Agricultural activities in hilly areas are exposed to the risk of soil erosion. Soil erosion causes the top layer of the fertile soil to be washed away by winds, rainfall or surface runoff which leads to sedimentation in river or rivers [11][12][13]. This study will be elaborate in details based on four groups of soil conservation techniques/measures as shown in Figure 4.…”

“…Activities like construction buildings, roads, highways where related to deforestation can be lead to severe soil erosion especially in steep areas [1][2][3]. Heavy rainfall is identified as a one of the cause for soil erosion which rainfall can lead and produce soil mass movements and landslides [4][5][6][7]. Therefore, government authorities need to enforce acts and regulations regarding the deforestation activities, so that it can be controlled.…”
