Passive safety system for small unmanned aerial vehicles

Abstract: Abstract. In this paper a new air-bag prototype suitable for protecting valuable objects mounted on the drone is presented. The paper provides a complimentary study involving both numerical simulations and experimental study. The experimental research results are presented for typical air-bag's textile material and were used as a base for the material model calibration process. This model was used for the numerical simulations of the proposed air-bag prototype, which were carried out in the LS-Dyna environment… Show more

“…Diminishing the probability of damages caused by accidents is also desired in our project and this is one of the main concerns nowadays, in regarding of the increasing rate and variety of uses of UAVs. Several researchers have worked on predicting such dangerous situations for humans 31 , also on the development of anti-collision systems 32 34 , using systems with dumping on fall for diminishing impact 35 , 36 , and even using airbag systems 37 . In parallel to these developments, governs worldwide, in general guided or supported by the scientific community, have proposed and sanctioned their regulatory laws following the evolution on the development and use of UAV 38 , 39 .…”
