Past Trends and Future Prospects in Conceptual Modeling - A Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract: Research in conceptual modeling is today undertaken in a large number of fields. We describe the results from a bibliometric analysis of major outlets for conceptual modeling research for investigating the evolution of research topics. As a basis for the study we used the openly accessible DBLP dataset which we enriched with data from related publisher's websites and databases. Besides a descriptive analysis of the publication data, we conducted a content-based analysis of more than 3.200 papers using Latent D… Show more

“…The topics are sorted by cumulative weight, with the weight of a topic k and word w as occurrence measure over w assigned to k. Note that it is only possible to include identified weights of the top five words. This procedure replicates closely the approach established before in [11].…”

“…Conceptual modeling activities have been broadly applied in the development of information systems over a wide range of domains for varied purposes [17]. Activities and topics related to conceptual modeling have evolved over the past four decades [15,20]. Notably, Jaakkola and Thalheim [21] highlight the importance of modeling, especially with the current emphasis on the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) tasks.…”
