Patching laser-reduced graphene oxide with carbon nanodots

Abstract: The performance of electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) electrodes based on 3D-graphene obtained by laser-assisted reduction of graphene oxide (GO) is improved by addition of carbon nanodots (CND) to the GO precursor material.

“…The pursuit of high SSA from direct laser scribing of organics has significant potential because direct laser scribing is a fast technique that can also be used to fabricate LSG electrodes on metal current collectors without binders. Kaner et al investigated a laser scribed mixture of carbon quantum dots and graphene oxide (Figure 15d) 232. At a carbon quantum dot concentration of 35%, the LSG exhibited the highest SSA around 1000 m 2 g −1 and a specific capacitance of 190 F g −1 .…”

“…A simple and feasible method to obtain mass production of highly oriented graphene is still badly needed . In previous years, a new method for graphene fabrication was presented involving laser or UV reduction of graphene oxide to form a turbostratic 3D graphene . These methods fabricated a flexible 3D structure of graphene where graphene sheets are oriented in different directions with an open lattice.…”
