Pathological brain detection in MRI scanning by wavelet packet Tsallis entropy and fuzzy support vector machine

Abstract: An computer-aided diagnosis system of pathological brain detection (PBD) is important for help physicians interpret and analyze medical images. We proposed a novel automatic PBD to distinguish pathological brains from healthy brains in magnetic resonance imaging scanning in this paper. The proposed method simplified the PBD problem to a binary classification task. We extracted the wavelet packet Tsallis entropy (WPTE) from each brain image. The WPTE is the Tsallis entropy of the coefficients of the discrete wa… Show more

“…A related distortion measure is the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), measured in decibels (dB). The problem with mean-square error is that it depends strongly on the image intensity scaling while PSNR rectifies this problem by scaling the mean-square error according to the image range [17]. PSNR is defined as follows:T1PSNRdB=10log10maxI2MSE,where max⁡ I is the peak value of the original image.…”

“…They employed the probabilistic NN (PNN) for classification. Zhang et al [17,18] found spider-web plots had no effect on PBD. Das et al [19] suggested using a Ripplet transform (RT) in PBD.…”

“…c i (i = 1,2) are positive parameters, and o i (i = 1,2) is the same as in formula (10). By this mean, the TSVM constructed two hyperplanes [45]. The first term in equations of (18) and (19) is the sum of squared distances.…”
