Abstract:Background: Schizophrenia is a heritable psychiatric disorder with a polygenic architecture. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have reported an increasing number of risk-associated variants and polygenic risk scores (PRS) now explain 17% of the variance in the disorder. There exists substantial heterogeneity in the effect of these variants and aggregating them based on biologically relevant functions may provide mechanistic insight into the disorder.
Methods: Using the largest schizophrenia GWAS to date,… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
