Patient with diffuse mesangial and endocapillary proliferative glomerulonephritis with hypocomplementemia and elevated anti-streptolysin O treated with prednisolone, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, and angiotensin II receptor antagonist

Abstract: A 24-year-old woman was admitted to Toyosaka Hospital with proteinuria, hematuria, lymphopenia, hypocomplementemia, positive anti-nuclear antibody (ANA), and elevation of anti-streptolysin O (ASO). Renal biopsy specimen revealed diffuse mesangial and endocapillary glomerulonephritis with crescent formation and duplication of the capillary loop on light microscopic examination. Mild to moderate proliferation of mesangial matrix and cells were observed. On immunofluorescence (IF) examination, deposition of IgG, … Show more

“…At 1 week after the injection, a decline in renal function was observed, but then 5 to 6 weeks later, the renal function recovered completely [14,32]. On the other hand, marked mesangial cell proliferation was observed in patients with chronic glomerulonephritis [13,21]. Therefore, the Thy-1 GN rat is considered the adequate animal models of GN and is suited to assessing the effectiveness of chemical compounds as suppressors toward the disease [11,19,30].…”

“…A decline in renal function has been observed 1 week after its injection however, renal function recovers completely -6 weeks later [1 , 31]. In addition, marked mesangial cell proliferation has been reported in patients with chronic GN [32,33]. Therefore, the Thy-1 GN rat is considered to be an adequate animal model of GN and is suitable for assessing the efectiveness of chemical compounds as suppressors toward the disease [3 -36].…”
