Pattern Based Systems Engineering – Application of Solution Patterns in the Design of Intelligent Technical Systems

Abstract: For the development of intelligent technical systems, Systems Engineering and Solution Patterns are the guarantee for success. In order to avoid cost-intensive iterations, the documentation and reuse of solution knowledge is addressed during the systems design. Using an interdisciplinary specification technique, a uniform structuring of Solution Patterns as well as the composition in a multidimensional knowledge space takes place. This is the basis of an associated systematics for a solution pattern-based syst… Show more

“…A logical element is an abstract representation of a sub-system to realise specific functions that will be concretised later (Estefan, 2008). If already existing components (real parts of the later product) are used, the sub-systems can already be concrete and corresponding descriptions can be inserted into the description hierarchy (Anacker et al, 2020).…”

“…Anacker synthesizes six major benefits using solution patterns from literature [36]: (1) transferability across disciplinary boundaries, (2) improvement of communication through explicit knowledge representation, (3) long-term documentation of solution knowledge, (4) reduced complexity by breaking down extensive problems, (5) increased efficiency through targeted reuse, and (6) promotion of creativity.…”

“…Color schemes in conjunction with stereotypes provide support here. The approaches we analyzed, which use solution pattern catalogs (Anacker et al, 2020;Amorim et al, 2017;Cheng et al, 2019;Fernandez-Buglioni, 2013;Heisel et al, 2019), do not fully meet these requirements. In particular, none of these approaches met R2 and R3.…”

“…Other approaches are applicable interdisciplinary on system level, but only partially consider security hazards. The SREP approach does not consider safety (Rehman et al, 2018), while the following approaches do not consider security Anacker et al (2020); ISO (2018aISO ( , 2015; Pohl (2016); Rupp et al (2014). The cybersecurity guidebook for cyber-physical vehicle systems (SAE, 2016) and the SAHARA approach (Macher et al, 2015) consider security hazards.…”
