Pd nanoparticle-modified electrodes for nonenzymatic hydrogen peroxide detection

Abstract: A hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2) sensor based on Pd nanoparticles (NPs) and glassy carbon electrodes (GCEs) is fabricated. Pd NPs are deposited on GCEs by using a gas phase cluster beam deposition technique. The NP-deposited electrodes show enhanced electrocatalytic activity in reduction of H 2 O 2. The electrode with an optimized NP coverage of 85 % has a high selective and stable nonenzymatic sensing ability of H 2 O 2 with a low detection limit (3.4 × 10 −7 M), high sensitivity (50.9 μA mM −1), and a wide line… Show more

“…Face-centered cubic (FCC) nanoparticles are widely used in applications such as drug delivery [1,2], catalysis [3], tribology [4], nanolithography [5], electrochemical sensors [6], and as fillers in polymer composites [7]. Many of these applications apply mechanical loads resulting in compression of the particles, by design or inadvertently during use.…”

“…Unfortunately, their low stability attributed to their denaturation under the applied conditions limits their practical application. As a result, noble metal-based sensors (e.g., AuNPs, 17 AgMPs, 18 PtNPs, 19,20 and PdNPs 21 ) have been introduced as alternative, nonenzymatic H 2 O 2 sensors. Among them, silver nanostructures have attracted significant attention owing to their good activity and stability for H 2 O 2 electroreduction.…”

“…Recently, hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) is a major intermediate of biological cycles which has been used as a potential biomarker for oxidative stress diagnosis as well as a major catalyst for immune sensing [ 1 , 2 ]. On the other hand, it is also an essential compound of bleach industries and waste water treatment.…”
