Pea yield and its quality depending on inoculation, nitrogen and molybdenum fertilization

Abstract: The influence of seed inoculation with a bio-preparation of nodule bacteria Rhizobium leguminosarum, fertilization of 0, 40, 80, 120 kg N/ha and molybdenum topdressing on the yield of green mass, dry maer, seed, average number of pods per plant, average number of seeds per pod, average nodule number per plant, nodule dry weight as well as plant and seed protein concentration were studied during the two years of investigations on two soils -Mollic Gleysols and Eutric Cambisols. The highest values of all invest… Show more

“…Table 2 -Grain diameter (GD), number of grains per pod (GP), number of grains per plant (NGP), 100-grain weight (100M), shoot dry matter (DM) and grain yield (GY) of pea cultivars. Brkić et al (2004) and Kakar et al (2002) found maximum number of grains per pod of 5.52 and 6.00, respectively, which were close values to those found in this paper. On the other hand, Silva et al (1990), while evaluating pea cultivars, found a mean number of grains per pod of 4.59.…”

“…The number of pods per plant was of 22.5 and 32.5 with 0 and 200 kg ha -1 doses, respectively. Brkić et al (2004), while evaluating nitrogen application effect on 'Sobel' pea, found a mean number of pods per plant of 7.52 with a 120 kg ha 1 dose. Kakar et al (2002), while studying NPK doses combination in pea, found a number of pods per plant from 13.90 to 33.10.…”

“…Biologically-fixed nitrogen by legumes is produced by solar energy, whereas nitrogen found in fertilizers is produced from non-renewable energy sources (Crews and Peoples, 2004). Agricultural production constantly aims at an environment-friendly production, as well as at decreasing the costs of energy production (Brkić et al, 2004). The main advantage of providing support for biological nitrogen fixation for grain and fodder legumes is the improvement of yield potential without the application of external nitrogen fertilizers.…”
