Pectus Excavatum: Uncommon Electrical Abnormalities Caused by Extrinsic Right Ventricular Compression

Abstract: We report a case of pectus excavatum associated with ventricular tachycardia provoked by exercise in a 19-year-old man. Although this chest deformity has been associated with supraventricular dysrhythmias, documented ventricular tachycardia has only been reported once. Our patient's ventricular dysrhythmia was treated by surgical correction of his pectus excavatum only, and at 3 years follow-up he has had no recurrence of his ventricular tachycardia.

“…A variety of treatment modalities for symptomatic ventricular arrhythmias in patients with PE have been described by other case reports. 5,[11][12][13] Hamoud et al 11 cause of SCA due to a lack of available data. Therefore, it was reasonable to proceed with ICD placement post-surgical repair as secondary prevention of SCA in our patient.…”

“…Воронкообразная деформация грудной клетки (ВДГК) -один из наиболее частых пороков раз-вития грудной клетки, который сопровождается косметическими дефектами, серьезными функ-циональными изменениями со стороны органов грудной клетки [1][2][3][4][5][6][7] и психосоциальными про-блемами [8]. В литературе описано более 80 раз-личных вариантов хирургических вмешательств и их модификаций для коррекции ВДГК [9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16].…”

“…Surgical correction with modified Ravitch or Nuss technique is sometimes performed, but recurrent PE is not uncommon [1]. Indications of the operation for PE are various, of those, symptomatic tachyarrhythmia is one of the important reasons [2]. As a consequence of mechanical compression, PE leads to structural or hemodynamic consequences which may be proarrhythmic [2, 3].…”

We report a case of young man with recurrent PE after the first surgical correction at the age of 3.…”
